ABOUT US
Our work at the Hutchinson Heritage Foundation encompasses a multifaceted approach to achieving our mission. We actively engage in the preservation of historical artifacts, oral histories, and traditional practices that define the Gullah Geechee heritage. By doing so, we aim to create a lasting legacy for our families and the wider community.
Our Focus.
Join us in embarking on a meaningful journey as we preserve and celebrate the vibrant Gullah Geechee history and culture of Edisto Island, S.C., through our "3 Pillars Of Purpose."
In a climate of racism, black history erasure, and book bans, the Hutchinson Heritage Foundation is resolute. We will seek transformative education, collaborating with like-minded institutions to ensure accurate history prevails.
The barrier sea islands' isolation allowed enslaved people to preserve rich African traditions, evident in their unique language, food, farming, arts, stories, music, and spirituality.
Community lies at the heart of our mission.
The Hutchinson Heritage Foundation is dedicated to continually promoting, engaging, and uplifting the underserved communities in the Lowcountry
and beyond.
